PARTICULARS OF THE COMPLAINT:
David Van Geffen was a registered insurance broker employed by and acting under the supervision of D G Dunbar Insurance Broker Limited, conducting business in the London, Ontario area.
As a result of information RIBO received from the complainant, it appears that David Van Geffen may have committed misconduct by altering the complainant’s insurance policy declaration pages without the insurer’s or the complainant’s knowledge or permission by removing premium charged by the insurer from the policy documentation, and charging the complainant $3,000.00 over and above the insurer’s premium in addition to the commission being paid to the broker by the insurer.
The Discipline Committee approved a consent agreement between D G Dunbar Insurance and RIBO, and ordered:
(a) that David Van Geffen’s Certificate of Registration is hereby suspended for thirty (30) days effective from the date of this Order.
(b) that David Van Geffen is formally reprimanded by the Discipline Committee.
